Long Weekends
Tuesday, August 22, 2006
I just love long weekends! Don't you?

I also love that Madam President tries to find a reason and excuse to declare a long weekend much to the business sectors' consternation and dismay.

So here's an almost detailed run down of my weekend:

FRIDAY

  • Right after work, I went to Greenbelt 3 where I was meeting A.
  • We had dinner at Cafe Bola where he had Brocolli soup, Carambola in Spicy Curry sauce while I had Naked Chorizo- Ilonggo Style on rice and we shared Pandesal rounds with Swamp Cabbage Dip.
  • We went to First Aid also where I found Mentos Cool Chews in Spearmint Blast and Mentos Plus Berry Mix. I recommend the Berry Mix if you're a fan of Strawberry Mentos.
  • We went to buy tickets to the new Adam Sandler flick entitled Click.
  • Since we still had time to kill, I ordered a regular cup of Ferrero and Aussie Cookies and Cream with Cadbury Luxury Flake and Nutella mix ins from Cold Rock. Damn expensive ice cream but goooood!
  • I liked the movie! It made me laugh but it also tugged at my heart. I cried towards the end.
  • After the movie, we went to A's house where I caught his mom still working at 2am! She was manually computing her students' grades and typing them into the Excel spreadsheet. I offered to help her by programming formulas into the spreadsheet so that all she has to do is just input the test scores and the computer will automatically compute for the grade. At first she was shy but I insisted. After all, I could do the programming in 15 minutes. Two days later, when I got to talk to her on the phone, she was very grateful as it made her work faster.
  • I got home at around 330am. I still stayed up and ate Piknik Ketchup Fries while watching "Ten Things I Hate About You", which I downloaded from the internet, on my computer.

SATURDAY

  • I started my day by going to California Nails and Day Spa where I had a foot spa, foot and leg massage and another procedure which I will not disclose here. Let's just say that the procedure is not for the faint hearted or those who have low tolerance for pain. It was my first time and let me just say: THANK GOD FOR PAINKILLERS!!!
  • I hopped on over to Shopwise but after seeing the long grocery queus, I decided to shop another day. Instead, I bought Holy Kettle Corn for my 4 little boys: my 3 brothers and A.
  • I went home, picked out my outfit for my highschool kabarkada's birthday party and took a 30 minute nap.
  • After snoozing the alarm twice, A texts me that he's at my gate already. I got up and put on my outfit, went downstairs to say hello to A, went back upstairs to put on my makeup and we were out in 15 minutes.
  • Had dinner at the newly opened Teriyaki Boy in Katipunan. I love that there is a Teriyaki Boy near my house. A and I had Tuna Maki, Shake Maki, Chawan Mushi, Tofu Steak and Sukiyaki Beef Teriyaki.
  • Headed over to Greenbelt, Nuvo to be exact, for the party.
  • When we got home at 3am, we found Chewy, our Shih Tzu, in the living room. A taught him how to fetch and he was successful but only for that night. =P

SUNDAY

  • We started the day (or night, rather) by going to mass at 6pm at Santuario De San Antonio.
  • After mass, I treated A to a spa treatment at Neo Day Spa. We both had the Zen Bodyworks treatment.
  • Right after the spa, I was so famished. We wanted to try out Embassy's Cafeteria. Unfortunately, they were already closed at 930pm. We opted for Jack's instead where I had a Roast Beef sandwich and he had the Lumberjack Special (Toast with eggs, sausages and ham) and split a Brocolli and Cheese soup which was perfect for the cold and rainy weather.
  • After dinner, we went to A's bestfriend's house to play Texas Hold'em with Jim and Bri. Now, these guys have been playing almost every weekend for a year or so and I never joined them because I wasn't confident with my game. I felt that I couldn't read my opponents or that they could easily read me because I was transparent. But because I knew how to play Pusoy Dos, knowing the hands wasn't so hard at all. It was the bettings and knowing when to call/ check/ raise/ fold that confused me. A had to teach me one Saturday night so I could get the hang of it. So last Sunday's game was my debut. Imagine their surprise and mine as well, when I kicked their asses! I won 2 rounds out of 4. It was just amazing! I think I won not only because I had good hands but because I got lucky. Half of the time, I didn't know what I was doing! A was telling me it was amazing how I called Bri's bluff or how I trapped Jim and yet, I was like, "Huh? What are you talking about?!"
  • After poker, we played another card game where we guess the card that we placed on our foreheads based on 3 questions answerable by a yes or no. You can ask if the suit is colored red or black or if the card is a face card, etc. You have to be creative with your questions to be able to guess your card.
  • A and I left Jim's house at around 330am and we went separate ways. Luckily, we each brought a car.

MONDAY

  • I got up at 2pm and did some work while surfing the net. I left my house at 630pm and picked A up at his house. We headed towards Mall of Asia to do some window shopping.
  • First stop, of course, was Power Books where I picked up a book and A chastises me for buying another book when I have 17 more books to read at home. I corrected him by saying, "Not 17. 20!" while placing the book back on the shelf. Since I can't buy any more books, because after all, A was right, my tummy started grumbling.
  • We headed back to the restaurant where we ordered bowls of Sinigang, Inihaw na Liempo, Fried Chicken and Ensaladang Talong.
  • After dinner, we just walked around. Stopping by this ice cream stall selling Korean ice cream which was good!
  • We went to A's house at 10pm where we watched episodes of American Dad. Funny cartoon!
  • I went home at around 2am and logged on to blog about my weekend which stupidly, got deleted after I finished it. What a way to end my weekend!

What did you do on your weekend?

When Am I Getting Married?
Tuesday, August 15, 2006
For the past few months, perhaps, even the past couple of years, people are always asking me when I'm getting married or when A and I are getting married.

Honestly, although A and I do talk about marriage and know that we're each other's "The One," I am tired of hearing that question and it puts me under so much pressure. It's like everyone is telling me to, if not should, get married already.

So how do I deal with this question?

When my friends ask me this question, I say "When I have rock on my finger!" and we all have a laugh.

When acquaintances or people I'm not close to ask me this question, I say, "Well, we do talk about marriage but not anytime soon."

When my relatives ask me this question, I say roll my eyes and go, "Psshh!" as if to say, "Hello! I'm still young! Marriage is the least of my priorities!" because I know they have this fear of getting instantly old the moment I walk down the aisle. Obviously, I'm telling them what they want to hear. After all, many people think that when you get married, you're automatically having children. Hence, if I get married now and have kids, my grandmother would automatically be a great grandmother at the age of 67. My dad would be a grandfather at 43. Therefore making my youngest uncle a grand uncle at 32! We're a pretty young family actually.

When one of our investors ask me this question every time he sees me, I playfully say, "Kunin kitang ninong dyan eh! (I'll get you as a godfather!)" Then we both laugh and go our separate ways.

But lately, I have been answering this question differently. Whenever my friends ask me this question, I answer and we all laugh, some of them saying that I'm crazy. Just last week, over dinner at a somewhat fancy resto with my parents and sisters, something we haven't done in a while, my dad asked me out of the blue, "When are you getting married?" So I do my usual reaction of rolling my eyes. And my dad says, "You should be thinking about it. You're not getting any younger!" And so to take off the pressure and to shut my dad up, I gave my latest reply:

"When he gets me pregnant!"

I swear! My dad's reaction was priceless! His jaw dropped and my stepmom and I both laughed at him. My dad recovers by saying, "Well, it's not me who's gonna kill you. It's your lola!" My stepmom agrees and adds, "Yeah, she won't only talk to you (referring to me) about it, she'll talk to you (referring to my dad) for hours!" I playfully add, "Well, if he gets me pregnant, I'm gonna kill him!" (Of course, that's just to show them that I don't wanna get pregnant anytime soon... which I really don't!) And my wonderful stepmom says, "Ikaw, pwede pa! Si A, hindi!" As if to say that if I do get pregnant, it was my fault and not A's! Hahahahaha! That man is an angel in their eyes!

Hmmm, maybe when "When he gets me pregnant!" gets old, I'll change it to "When I have enough saved for an annulment!" just to shake and shut people up!
